I love iced tea so much that there are times, like today, I brushed my teeth with it.
Well, I used tooth paste for sure, but since I had used up all the free bottled water the hotel gave me I was stuck. There is no way “their” water is going into my mouth. In fact, the other night I saw three relatively young women (most now are young to me), about to drink the water from a bottle sitting on the table. I wanted to run over there and take a flying leap to grab the bottle before they actually poured it into their glasses. I apologize for the image I just created in your mind. My flying and leaping days are over. Had I done it, I would have broken the table and scattered the women. It reminds me of the time my chair broke in Cracker Barrel. I went straight down and back hitting the person behind me whose table went into the stomach of his pregnant wife. I was so embarrassed until I got my meal for free. So if you want a free meal from the Barrel . . . just break a chair or two.
Back to the girls and the bottle of water. Most hotels over here, at least the ones in which I stay, boast of having very clean and pure water. It is well treated, even that which comes from the tap. But I don’t risk it. I don’t eat cold vegetables and fruits that have their skin still on. Nor do I eat any lettuce or salads. Again, it is washed in their water.
So, the decision this morning was — do I moisture my tooth brush and rinse out my mouth with their water or iced tea? It was iced tea . . . a new purpose for my favorite beverage.
I don’t think hydration will be an issue when we are in Heaven, but I’m pretty sure if we wish to have a drink, the river that runs through our eternal home will be absolutely pure and perfect. In the Apostle John’s vision of Heaven he is shown by an angel “the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city.” Then he mentions the tree of life which is on both sides of the river and it produces a different fruit each month. How cool is that? Interesting, however, is that “the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations” (Rev. 22:1–2). Oh how we could use some of those leaves right now. Our nation and many others are a mess.
Not sure if there will be iced tea in Heaven. I’ll settle for the kind of water that is mentioned above. Oh, and I don’t think we’ll need to brush our teeth, either. Yay!
